Job Overview: The office of Boston City Council President Liz Breadon is hiring a part-time District Director to serve as the Councilor’s primary on-the-ground representative in District 9 (Allston-Brighton). The District Director will serve as lead in all constituent services work: connecting residents to services and resources, and ensuring cases are resolved in a timely and efficient manner.
This role will be 15-20 hours per week and requires the ability to attend regular events in-district, often on weekday evenings. Work can be hybrid, but in-person availability at City Hall is required as the City Council schedule dictates (typically 2-3 days/week.)
This position requires strong interpersonal skills, familiarity with or willingness to learn about Boston neighborhoods and city services, and the ability to work independently while coordinating closely with the Council President and her staff.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the first point of contact for Allston-Brighton residents regarding city services and neighborhood concerns.
- Attend neighborhood meetings, civic association meetings, and community events on behalf of the Councilor; plan and attend monthly office hours with the Councilor
- Build and leverage relationships with city departments, state agencies, elected officials’ offices, and other stakeholders to resolve constituent issues and address concerns.
- Manage and track all constituent casework related to matters including housing, public works, transportation, and public safety.
- Build relationships with community leaders, small businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations in the district.
- Provide regular updates to the Councilor and office staff on district priorities and concerns
- Assist the Councilor and staff in drafting and distributing communications to constituents as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent demonstrated professional experience required
- 2-3 years of relevant experience in constituent services, customer support, or other related field required
- Strong oral and written communication skills; Spanish fluency preferred
- Exceptional organizational skills necessary to log, track, and follow up on constituent cases in a timely manner
- Ability to manage sensitive constituent issues with professionalism, empathy,discretion
- Familiarity with Boston city services, state/federal agencies, and other relevant entities (or ability to learn quickly)
- Capacity to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage flexible hours
- Boston residency required; residency in, or deep familiarity with, the Allston-Brighton community strongly preferred
Salary: $25,000-30,000/year at 15-20hrs/week
