Campaign Manager

The Campaign Manager will lead the planning and execution of a winning campaign to elect Matthew McLaughlin to the Massachusetts State Senate. This role is responsible for translating campaign goals into a clear strategy, directing daily operations, and ensuring all components of the campaign—field, fundraising, communications, and compliance—are moving forward in a coordinated and effective way. The Campaign Manager will supervise staff, volunteers, and consultants while keeping the campaign on pace to meet key benchmarks ahead of the September 1, 2026 primary.

We are seeking a candidate with experience in Massachusetts politics, strong management skills, and a deep understanding of issues facing local communities. The ideal applicant is comfortable operating in a fast-moving, high-pressure environment and enjoys building and motivating teams. This is a full-time position beginning in February 2026 and continuing through the primary election.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the campaign’s central point of coordination, managing the candidate’s schedule and working closely with political consultants and the campaign’s kitchen cabinet
  • Convene and facilitate regular strategy and planning meetings with senior advisors
  • Develop and oversee the campaign finance plan, in partnership with the kitchen cabinet, to ensure fundraising targets and budget goals are met
  • Manage the campaign’s budget and work closely with compliance professionals to ensure adherence to all campaign finance regulations
  • Work with our Comms advisor to manage communications efforts, including message development, press relations, digital content, email communications, printed materials, and visual design
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise campaign staff, interns, and volunteers
  • Lead the implementation of a comprehensive voter contact and volunteer engagement program in coordination with field staff
  • Oversee the campaign’s daily operations, tracking progress toward goals and resolving issues as they arise

  • You are able to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • You are highly organized, have good time management and capable of juggling multiple priorities without losing sight of the big picture
  • You are committed to progressive values, including justice, equity, and grassroots political organizing
  • You have experience working on local or state campaigns and/or strong ties to the communities in the district
  • You are comfortable engaging with voters, volunteers, and community stakeholders
  • You stay level-headed under pressure and can adapt quickly when plans change
  • You are comfortable with digital tools and social media. Familiarity with Votebuilder, NGP, miniVAN, Scale to Win and Google Workspace/Microsoft Office is a plus
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle are preferred
